For the aspiring gemmologists, the Emerald (Be3 Al2 (SiO3)6), is a variety of the mineral beryl, coloured green by trace amounts of chromium and sometimes vanadium. Only the finest qualities are transparent.

|
Due to the immensely hostile environment in which emerald is formed it is extremely rare to find an example of this magnificent gem which is not clouded by inclusions, even rarer to find an example that combines clarity with the intense traffic light green for which this gemstone is so highly prized.
You should think of these inclusions not as flaws but as nature's fingerprints, making your emerald truly individual. These examples of geology in minature can tell the trained eye the country and even the individual mine from which the stone came!
According to legend, the emerald has the power to protect the chastity of the wearer and to ward off evil spirits. Furthermore, it was used as a cure for epilepsy and dysentery as well as to aid weak eyesight.
Famous admirers of emeralds include the Roman emperor Nero, who was said to have been so fond of emeralds, that he watched gladiator matches through
glasses made from them. |

Hello, So emerald is this month's birthstone and it also happens to be my wife Pam's favourite stone; Nero liked them too which probably explains Pam's empirical tendencies!
Pam is on a cruise with her aged mother right now and our female staff wonder why I didn't go. Our male staff quickly spot that it's a ‘no brainer' why would I want to to be trapped on a boat with Nero and the dragon.
What has all this got to do with jewellery? Absolutely nothing except to say that we have a large choice of emerald pieces in store from £40 to thousands and the gemmologists to explain their qualities. But for a nicely priced birthday gift look no further than our exclusive online necklace and earrings offer. A few clicks and it will be posted within 24 hours. |

| With pure white lace and crochet, sailor stripes and re-vamped 70's glamour, there are plenty of summer styles to choose from. Just make sure yours is ultra chic by adding super long necklaces, with the emphasis on gold, pendants and charms again worn long, chunky gold bangles work well with the nautical theme and luscious gems add colour and glamour on summer evenings.
Choose coloured leather, classic white and charm bracelet style watches (instore we have ranges from Lorus, Seiko and Citizen ranging from £29.95 - £169). And if you fancy something slightly more delicate and feminine then girly ribbon trimmed lace blouses are a new trend, complemented perfectly by iridescent pearl jewellery, and beaded crystal and semi-precious stone pieces.
Whatever style you choose this summer make sure you've got the jewellery to finish the look. |
